Thank you for attending our Say Owt gig. We’re so proud of the poetry community for being a space to share and hear heartfelt, funny, political and urgent poems. We love the connection that comes with spoken word, and endeavour to keep our gigs full of genuine heart and positivity.
Say Owt believes that everyone should feel comfortable and welcome to an event we are part of. This includes everyone involved: performers, audiences and venue staff.
Warm and welcoming space
Even the most experienced performer still gets nervous. Please give people room to breathe. If someone doesn’t want to talk, either before or after a performance, please respect that! Someone might be sharing personal stories on stage, but that doesn’t mean they want to have a chat about it offstage. And be aware that not everyone is looking for feedback, but if they are, please make sure it’s constructive feedback.
Anti-Discrimination
We do not tolerate any bigotry, which can come in a spectrum of racism and xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, sexism and classism. Please note we define classism as discrimination against working class people and ‘punching down’.
Actions we will take
If we feel it’s necessary, we will challenge people’s behaviour and ask them to reconsider their language or to remove themself from any conversations. If there is persistent or harmful inappropriate behaviour, we will ask individuals to leave the space.
Thanks for your support in making our events the best they can be - we can’t do it without you, and every gig we’re super proud of the wonderful spirit of the scene.
